Lesson 1 - Mon 25th Aug 2008
Period 1 - Starting Standard Grade:

Class discussion - what do you want to do this year and next? What do you think we should / will cover this year and next?
Quia quiz - Getting to know you
Sort old files on computer, create folders for all new subjects.

Period 2 - Word Processing:
Give out folders, dividers, paper, stickers.
Demo features of Word - bold, italic, underline, font, size and colour
Task - write a story, opening paragraph available to help those who want it.


Lesson 2 - Tuesday 26th Aug
Period 1 - Bullets:
Discuss - Why add bullets - lists of items, revision notes
Demo - alignment, how to select text and add bullet points
Task - Create a list of at least 20 items, eg football teams, bands, fruit, chocolate bars, etc (pupil's choice)
Demo - change colour and font, customise icon picture
Task - List of items should all be a different colour and different bullet icon

Period 2 - Images
Demo - film quiz and using images in Word (align square)
Task - create a film quiz using piictures from the internet as clues


Lesson 3 - Monday 1st Sept
Periods 1 & 2 - Tables:
Discuss word processing software (Microsoft Word, Applewords)
Demo Acrobat Buzzword - sign up for account, tabs, menus, format text, add table
Task - Sign up for Buzzword account
Task - Create a table 12x12, navigation by tab or arrow keys.
Create a wordsearch. Type words below the wordsearch at first, then insert images instead
Demo - inserting images in Buzzword
Demo - sharing document with other people

What is a table - timetable, calendar, bus times, etc.
Define - columns and rows
Demo - how to add a table, 12 columns, 12 rows, navigation by tab or arrow keys
Task - Create a table 12x12, create a wordsearch with a bullet list of the words used
Demo - selecting table, row or column, centering table or columns, changing font
Demo - changing bullet list into two or three columns, printing grayscale
Demo - cut and paste table lower to add in a heading
Task - print two copies, one for folder, one to swap with classmate



Lesson 4 - Tuesday 2nd Sept
Period 1 - Columns and margins
Copy note on Word Processing (WP note 1)
Demo - different page views, changing margins by dragging or adjusting numbers
Task - Search internet for a poem (on football or something of interest)
Task - Copy and paste poem into a Word doc, adjust margins so poem is in middle but left aligned
Task - Save and print and put into folder

Period 2 - Intro to Tabs
Demo - word wrap (in Word and Wordpad), using the tab key and setting tabs. Show Proclaimers lyrics example
Task - search internet for lyrics to favourite song (search for song title and 'lyrics')
Task - Copy and paste lyrics and tab each line to a different point so there is a nice wave of lyrics in and out down the page
Task - Save and print and put into folder

Note for next time - Show/Hide change the carriage returns

Lesson 5 - Monday 8th Sept
Task - create an eye-catching poster for badminton club including images
Discuss - spelling and grammar errors, red and green lines, where/wear etc, real names
Task - Open spelling.doc in shared area and correct spelling and grammar errors

Demo - opening a template letter and inserting standard paragraphs as a file
Task - create letters from a Doctor and a school using standard paragraphs

Discuss - methods of creating revision notes
Start Word document with notes for Word Processing topic


Lesson 6 - Tuesday 9th Sept
Demo - Show/Hide function, useful when copying into from internet,
Demo - copy and paste lyrics and change carriage returns (delete and return at end of each line)
Complete tabs lyrics task

Demo - Left tab / centre tab / right tab
Task - Olympics medal table worksheet

Demo - how to open a template, work on it, then save it as a template again
Complete SQA Coversheet task

Ext task - carry on with writing revision notes when finished a task and waiting for other to catch up.


Lesson 7 - Monday 22nd Sept
Discuss - Portrait and Landscape and page breaks
Task - create a three page / three word inspirational landscape poster (eg "Just Do IT" or "Live, Laugh, Learn") with page breaks

Discuss - Search and Replace, when is it useful, when it can go wrong (the/he, here/where etc), replace all
Demo - Find and Replace
Task - open up Search and Replace fairy tale document and replace words as instructed in worksheet

Lesson 8 - Tuesday 23rd Sept
SQA Task - Fiddle Club


Lesson 9 - Monday 29th Sept
Finish off SQA Fiddle Club task

Discuss - letter format, language, key information
Task - Write a letter to someone, find the address and post code, print letter and write the envelope


Lesson 10 - Tuesday 30th Sept
Task - Write a letter to someone, find the address and post code, print letter and write the envelope

Finish off SQA Fiddle Club task - fix errors and finish written questions
Ext task - carry on with writing revision notes when finished SQA task


Lesson 11 - Monday 6th Oct
Task - Open OCR document: Shared Drive / Reources / Computing / S3 / Word Processing / Scanned text - textbook p26
Edit the document to make sure there are no errors (common OCR problems - i/l, m/r n, O/0)
Print document (note on OCR)

Discuss - Standard letters. Show Class Outing letter and database as example of mail merged letter


Lesson 12 - Tuesday 7th Oct
Task - Finish SQA Fiddle Club (if off and not finished)
Task - WP wordsearch puzzle
Task - finish revision notes
Task - make a WP crossword with at least 20 clues using http://www.puzzle-maker.com/CW. Print it for others in the class
Task - start to do the crosswords others have made
Homework - revise for WP test next week using crosswords, pupil's revision notes and summary sheet


Lesson 13 - Monday 13th Oct
Revision then WP test


Lesson 14 - Tuesday 14th Oct
Period 1 - Go over and mark WP test
Period 2 - Free time (last lesson before holidays)
